POLITICAL NOSTALGIA

Change happens, whether we like it or not.....best to just accept it and enjoy life. There is some change though, that is so offensive that acceptance becomes impossible. Conservatives, Liberals and NDP have all received my vote in past elections (Federal and Provincial). Despite voting one way, I was able to hold a great deal of respect for the party representative who did not receive my vote. Now, as the leaders go, so go the party. Meaning we are reduced to voting for party leaders...local candidates are drowned out and muzzled by their leaders. Mr Harper has taken this to unprecedented lengths. We look at the Right and Left divide in the United States and the polarizing effect this has on a great nation and wonder how right-minded people have come to so viscerally "hate" each other. Watch Mr Harper throughout this campaign....watch the TV ads he promotes against his opponents.....listen to how he attacks at every opportunity. This is not "wedge" politics. This is an invitation to Mr. Harper's Tea Party.

NO TEAM PLAYERS

It's obvious that our "leaders" did not play team sports in their youth. Stephen Harper has all the traits of a "grown-up" schoolyard bully who was never part of a team. Team sports teach young people how to have fun while achieving positive goals. Each team has a captain, but no team is ultimately successful when it is not allowed to function as a "team".

THE REVOLUTION IS COMING !!!!

No, not the democracy seeking, citizen-led forces of change taking hold in other parts of the world. Quite the contrary....our revolution is about to be foisted upon us as "Common Sense Revolution - the sequel" a.k.a. A Conservative Majority Government. A bigger, better, new-and-improved Common Sense Revolution....no longer constrained by the geographic and political boundaries of Ontario. The Mike Harris brain trust of Jim Flaherty, John Baird and Tony Clement left Queens Park to become the righthand men in Stephen Harper's Government (formerly the Government of Canada) and champion this revolutionary renaissance and revive the fuzzy nostalgia of those heady times. Ahhhh.....those were the days......Hospitals and Schools forced to close, forced Municipal Amalgamations, Services downloaded, crippling Labour stoppages, War declared against Teachers, Health Care professionals, Public Service employees, and Those in Need of Social Services, Lost School days for our Children, Cutbacks to Services at all levels (read "Walkerton"). The list seems endless. A big "Thank you" to Jim, John and Tony. We didn't know what was in our best interest until you pointed us in the right direction. Biding your time in Ottawa must be frustrating for men of action, but the ultimate goal is close at hand......the groundwork is laid (Senate stacked with patronage appointments, fear of Coalitions, Attack ads pounding the airwaves, Checks and Balances on absolute power beaten and cowed at every opportunity, diminished global respect). Let's go all the way and declare our new campaign slogans.....our twin pillars of strength used to form the new Harper Government (formerly the Government of Canada): "Why tell the Truth, When a Good Lie will Do" and "Michael Ignatieff...He didn't Come Back for You" although you might admit this second one is getting a bit old and worn. Let's change it to: "Coalitions - The Devil's Work....unless it's 2004 and we really, really want one". On second thought it's always better to "stay on message"......the Harper Government (formerly the Government of Canada) has learned, with much success, that "HE WHO SCREAMS THE LOUDEST, GETS HEARD" .....let's go with that as our campaign slogan although I still like the one about not telling the truth, but I suppose that's a wee bit too obvious. Let's hope for a true, Common Sense Revolution.....just not the one Jim, John and Tony, and the rest of the Harper Government (formerly the Government of Canada) envision. As long as the Government of Canada (now the Harper Government) remains the Harper Government (formerly the Government of Canada) there will never be the sort of cooperation between competing ideals and exchange of ideas for the good of us all. Vote!!!!
